Merlin came to my parents in fall 2003 from a family who wanted to have him put down because they didn't want to take care of him anymore. They were his second owners. Third time's a charm! He was 5 at the time. When I came home from college and met him, it was heartbreaking. This was clearly a very nice boy but he didn't know what toys were, wouldn't give kisses, and was generally afraid to show affection. He's terrified of fire, and when I gave him a haircut I found weird burn scars on his back.
However nasty his past might have been, he has turned completely around and is now one of the most affectionate dogs I've ever met. He's friends with everyone he sees. Bridge has helped him with learning how to play with other dogs. He is a happy, lovey boy and we are very glad to have him. People always get a kick out of seeing him at Lure coursing trials, where we introduce him as our "curly-coated Afghan." He's even been known to chase the lure a few times! |
